They came, they saw, they rode trikes!

The Short Reach Short Riders held their second annual trike ride for "Behind the Scenes" on Saturday, March 15th. A cold and wet morning greeted the thirty eight high school riders as they competed in relays, sprints, and the “Enduro” (six tenths of a mile lap around the school). Winners of this year’s races were: Relay—Team Sapsis, Sprint—Elliot Kress, and Enduro—Peter Jackson.

Sponsors for the 2008 ride included: Kim Craigie; the MVHS Chapter of FFA; Barbara E.R. Lucas, USITT; Reid Neslage, H&H Specialties; Lori Rubinstein and John McGraw; Bill Sapsis, Sapsis Rigging; the MVHS Chapter of USITT; Vincent Lighting Systems; and Rich and Becky Wolpert, Union Connector. Each rider also sought out individual local sponsors helping to bring the fundraising total to just over $2,200 for Behind the Scenes.

When asked by a colleague why the students would want to fundraise to benefit people unknown to them, Dana Taylor, the school’s USITT sponsor responded, “these are not strangers, these people are us in a few years, they will be our colleagues, our friends.” Sponsor Kim Craigie added, “it is good for them to get into the habit of giving, not just money, but more importantly, giving of their time and energy.”
