Pedaling to Benefit Behind the Scenes - Day 1
March 6, 2008 Joplin, MO
We (Robin Schraft and I) started out a little after 9 AM under a leaden grey sky, 30 degrees and a 20 mph North wind. Thank God we were headed West! The sun never really made it's appearance, so we rode in less than ideal weather. The forecast for tomorrow is for 40 degrees, flurries and partly sunny skies. A little warmer, but still not shirts-sleeve weather. The cloudiness I can live with, but I'll pass on the snow. It's supposed to continue warming up this week, so I'm optimistic.
We made pretty good time all day, riding mostly county and farm roads. Rob and I are matched up pretty well when it comes to pace and attitude. The day passed quickly and we got to Joplin a lot sooner than I had hoped. This bodes well for the future.
Tomorrow I get onto Route 66 and stay on it for the next 3 days. Look for pictures of some of the classic touring artifacts along that stretch of Americana. I'll be getting my kicks on Rte. 66! |
Robin Schraft and Rich Wolpert on Day 1 of the ride

Rich's new RANS STRATUS recumbent. Becky injured her knee just
before the ride and couldn't join him. The only bike they had was
a tandem, so Rich picked this up just before the ride started.
